The San Gabriel Valley Football Officials Association is proud to support military veterans looking to become football officials through Battlefields to Ballfields, a program founded by Mike Pereira.
Many veterans face real challenges reintegrating into civilian life after their service. Battlefields to Ballfields was created to help ease that transition by connecting veterans with officiating — a community built on discipline, teamwork, and being part of something bigger than yourself, values many veterans already know well.
What the Program Offers
Through Battlefields to Ballfields, eligible veterans can receive:
- Financial assistance with SGVFOA membership dues
- Coverage for officiating insurance
- Help with the cost of uniforms and equipment
- A dedicated mentor to help guide you through your first seasons and beyond
Why Officiating?
Football officiating offers structure, camaraderie, and a way to stay closely connected to the game — all while serving your local community. Many veterans find that the discipline and teamwork required on the field mirror experiences from their service, making officiating a natural and rewarding next step.
